How to design and build an online television channel from scratch in Java with Web 2.0 capabilities.

The Barcelona Chamber of Commerce wanted to generate more traffic and attention to their website by improving the communication and dissemination of its activities, conferences and live-events through a television channel on the web with web 2.0 capabilities.

The client approached Agilogy with quite specific criteria; they wanted to have the option to allow users to rate, comment, and tag the videos and to be able to use the information entered by other users of the web. The Chamber also needed a video subtitling tool that allowed them to subtitle small videos without specialized knowledge. In addition they wanted to show slides next to the videos simultaneously.

We designed and built a video portal with these features in collaboration with a multimedia firm which created the design and communication of the front-end. The entire platform is exploited on the web (Internet / Extranet) and has been developed on the Java platform, Liferay portal and Adobe streaming server.

With this new multi-media channel the Chamber was now able to broadcast the vast amount of pre-recorded videos of presentations and meetings they already had leveraging a lot of material which would otherwise have remained unused. In short, they were able to generate a lot more traffic to their website at minimum cost.
