UPCnet

Definition of a reference architecture

UPCnet is a services company specialized in the university domain that wanted to develop a new reference arquitecture for new developments based in Java technology. By using the same architecture, would facilitate the transition of developers between projects, while reducing the cost and technological risk by reusing components between projects.

They wanted to take advantage of the definition of this new architecture to incorporate new techological possibilities like POJO based programming models, but they didn’t have enough experience with the different options to take a reasoned decision.

They decided to hire Agilogy for our broad experience with the different technological solutions (EJB2, EJB3, Spring Framework, Hibernate, SpringMVC, Struts, Tomcat,…) so they achieve to reduce technological risk and to make the most of the development team training because it could be focused to the final solution.

This projet resulted in a sustained collaboration over time, during wich they carried out other projects, some in ‘outsourcing’ (enterely developed by Agilogy’s team in our offices) and others in ‘cosourcing’ mode (with mixed teams with staff from Agilogy and UPCnet). Thus, UPCnet outsourced the projects with greater technological risk while in the cosourcing projects, retained the knowledge about their implementation.
